International visit to Gmunden

The annual meeting of the International Micro Cupper Class Association (IMCCA) took place in the clubhouse of the UYCT. Representatives from 7 nations discussed the future of the class, voted on future championships and the development of the class rules.

After the lunch break the international delegates were checking the facilities for the next Worlds, led by UYCT Sports Manager Stasi Weinberger.

Renan Robert, Secretary General from Netherlands, said: “Traunsee and Gmunden especially is a very beatiful place. I look forward to race here for the title next year!”

The international class association was very pleased with the host club – “This is a wonderful place” said Andrey Maslov, President of the Russian class, “and I expect many Russian teams to compete because it is a very central venue” True, Moscow is just 3,000 km away.

The organisers congratulate Sopot for hosting the 2013 Worlds and St. Petersburg in 2014.

“I am happy to know that the Micro World Championship will return to Lake Traunsee”, said Philippe Benaben, Micro World Champion from 2002, “it was my first World Championship in Traunkirchen and it was great! Good to be back in Austria!” No wonder as he won the title in the last event that took place in Austria, in Achenkirch 2002.

Philippe De Troy, International Class President and Chief Measurer, added: “Events in Austria were always milestones in quality of organisation and measurement. The class is very happy to return to Lake Traunsee with the good memories from 1997 and with the knowledge of a new host, the UYCT, a club which hosted several major events over the last year. The class is looking forward to another outstanding event in Austria’s Salzkammergut!”

In general, the Micro community which attended the final Euro-Micro Race in Belgium was very interested in getting information about Gmunden and the Lake. Many flyers and leaflets with information about accommodation, travel and the clubs were distributed by the Austrian team.

The comeback of the AUT-49 Micro team with a 9th place in their first race since 2004 was noted by the other teams. “There was a huge development in the class since we raced last time, but we showed that we’re fast and we were progressing from race to race. They know that we’ll be back on top of the results next year”, explained Helmut Czasny, the helm of the Austrian boat, who sailed with Peter Wagner and Harald Wolf in Belgium.

The Austrian Micro Team AUT-49 will participate in the last event of the Euro Micro 2011 at Plate Taille. There will be plenty of information about next year, just pick it up from the Austrian team car or have a chat during the sailor’s dinner!

Micro Worlds in Austria!

Austria is very proud to host the Micro World Championship for the fourth time – after 1993 in Rust, 1997 in Traunkirchen and 2002 in Achenkirch, it is the pitoresk town of Gmunden which will be the host city for the class’ most important event in 2012.

Gmunden and the Lake Traunsee are famous for its fantastic wind conditions as well as for its hospitality and friendliness. The lake is a regular stop for the RC 44 Championship Tour with the world’s best skippers such as Russel Coutts or Cameron Appelton. In 2009, the UYCT hosted the European Championship of the Olympic 470 Class and last year the Wold Championship of the Platu 25 class took place in Gmunden.
